JNLP Wrapper Overview

JNLP Wrapper is a tool that works on top of Java Web Start to make it easier to use and more powerful. With JNLP Wrapper your applications work right out-of-the-box with Web Start, so you don't need to modify any application code. It also supports the distribution of native applications and content files.

What are the Benefits?

JNLP Wrapper saves you time and effort. With JNLP Wrapper you get all the benefits of distributing your application via JNLP and Web Start, such as:

• Automatic download, update, and launching of your application
• Automatic creation of desktop shortcuts
• Code signing for security
• Automatic proxy configuration

But with JNLP Wrapper, you don't need to spend time and energy making your code JNLP-compliant or figuring out why your application doesn't work under Web Start. You no longer need to:

• Deploy your application as a set of jar files
• Use the getResource mechanism to load all resources
• Deal with issues arising from running under a different ClassLoader and SecurityManager.

JNLP Wrapper also makes testing easier, since you can test your application as you normally would and not worry about it requiring JNLP API's or behaving differently under Web Start. Plus, JNLP Wrapper may be used to distribute native applications and content files.
